Product Description Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.
Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.
Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.
Amazon.com Review Amazon Best of the Month, May 2008: Stephenie Meyer, creator of the phenomenal teen-vamp Twilight series, takes paranormal romance into alien territory in her first adult novel. Those wary of sci-fi or teen angst will be pleasantly surprised by this mature and imaginative thriller, propelled by equal parts action and emotion. A species of altruistic parasites has peacefully assumed control of the minds and bodies of most humans, but feisty Melanie Stryder won't surrender her mind to the alien soul called Wanderer. Overwhelmed by Melanie's memories of fellow resistor Jared, Wanderer yields to her body's longing and sets off into the desert to find him. Likely the first love triangle involving just two bodies, it's unabashedly romantic, and the characters (human and alien) genuinely endearing. Readers intrigued by this familiar-yet-alien world will gleefully note that the story's end leaves the door open for a sequel--or another series. --Mari Malcolm

Great Read September 7, 2010 Gift Card Recipient (Mountains of Colorado) After reading the Twilight series I didn't think The Host would even come close. After finishing the book I found the beginning a little slow but once it got started I became obsessed and couldn't put it down till the end. Although I would have like the end to go on a little longer to wrap up the story better over all it was a great read.
the host revisited September 6, 2010 Nichole Duewell (wi,usa) I loved this book. yes i read all of the twilight books first, but when i saw this one i had to give a go. i have to say that this book was by far better then any in the twilight series. although breaking dawn is a strong contender. i would like to see this book turned into a movie...
I couldn't put it down September 5, 2010 Chantelle's Journey I could not put this book down. It read like I was watching a movie. I didn't want it to end.
Not a fix for Twilight Addicts but a Great Read September 4, 2010 TennisMum2010 I started reading the Twilight series to see why the students at school were so fixed on these books and quickly became an addict!
This is not a fix for this addiction but was a great read.
It took me a while to get into the book as I'm not generally a sci-fi fan but I quickly learned to love the story and got drawn into the romance as well as the story's theme.
It is written in Meyer's enviable style still and is a unique and interesting drama that unfolds page-by-page and keeps you wanting more (and therefore awake at night).
In conclusion: not the Twilight Series but a book well worth reading.
thought provoking and impossible to put down August 31, 2010 L. Swanson (South Carolina) dont hesitate...dont even bother reading the synopsis or others reviews (this one included) youre just wasting time you could be spendin getting lost in the fabulous characters and world stephanie meyer has created. her writing explores the human depths of characters you wont soon forget and will have you coming back for more.
